A blue and white illustration depicting older Singapore before the big Singapore River clean up in 1977 where bumboats were used mainly as form of transportation along Rochor, Kallang, Singapore rivers, along coast of mainland and nearby islands.
Boat Quay shophouses forms the main facade of this illustration, In 1860s it handles more than 2/3 of all shipping business. The south of the river resembles the belly of a carp and accoording to Chinese belief, this is the exact spot where wealth and prosperity colide. Hence that is the main reason where the shophouses were built where they are.
