Koon Seng Road Shophouse. Arguably the most photographed shophouse street of Singapore. Originally built in the 1920s, these pastel-coloured structures were once inhabited by Peranakan Chinese, which can be seen in the intricate detailing, motifs and tiles adorning each home.

Known to feature some of Singapore’s prettiest houses, this street has attracted an international audience, and you may get the chance to rub shoulders with other photographers and tourists alike while you’re there.

Joo Chiat/Katong Peranakan Shop House 1. Joo Chiat area is named after Chew Joo Chiat, a wealthy Chinese landowner in the early 20th century. The area’s identity is especially shaped by its unique pre-war architecture – colourful two-storey shophouses and terrace houses with ornate facades, intricate motifs and ceramic tiles. One of the most frequented foodie destinations, Joo Chiat/Katong is also well-loved by many Singaporeans and expats where the culinary choices are endless

In 2008, it became a protected conservation building.  Botanic Gardens was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Site status, one of the best use of public places and frequented by many as the lungs of the city.
