China Town during Chinese New Year. Temple Street- situated in the heart of Chinatown and runs parallel to Smith and Pagoda Street. It is probable that the road was named due to the presence of many temples in the vicinity and including that of the Sri Mariamman Temple - the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. The multi cultural and religions co-existing harmoniously in Singapore is something we are proud of.

Do you know Feb 1st 2022 will mark the beginning of the Year of Tiger? The date of Chinese New Year is decided by the moon? Learn more about this quintessential Asian holiday with our unique 'advent' calendar.

The first day to open this year's calendar will be on FEB 1st!!!!

Our bilingual Chinese New Year Advent Calendar counts the 15 days of the Chinese New Year – revealing illustrations and a little bit about this day's or an event's significance. It presents you a unique way to paticipate in this festival for you and your children. A great tool for educators and parents, or anyone who wants to know a little about the biggest holidays in Asia.

The cover story this year is about the foods we eat during Chinese New Year and the significance tied to food. We also touch on the main cover picture - all time favourite Lion Dance that all continues to capture the fascination of young and old.

The advent calendar will be A3 size (297x420mm), printed in bright 4colour offset (like a magazine) on 360gsm artcard paper (that's a thick cardboard, similar to a postcard, but two of those).

Multiculturalism and multiracial families will continue to rise in today's connected world. You don’t have to be Chinese to love this idea! You could be an expat living in Asia or a Caucasian, Indian or African who is interested in culture and folklore from this fascinating part of the world and wish to share your excitement with your children. This is definitely a fun way to find out and learn together.

Being Asian in a Western country is not unusual nowadays – but it can be challenging to share some of your beliefs and customs with your little ones who feel far removed from their Asian heritage. If you want your children to be more connected to your roots – gift them and yourself this Chinese New Year Advent Calendar and let them explore the heritage of this biggest of all Asian cultural festivals.

Thian Hock Keng Chinese Temple. Simon enjoys painting dragons. The Thian Hock Keng Temple is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore, built in 1840 by the Hokkiens who hailed from the Fuzhou province. The temple is a showcase of southern Chinese architectural styles and assembled without the use of a single nail, with elaborate carvings covering the walls and roofs. Thian Hock Keng Temple was originally located along the coastline before land reclamation took place, and was the first port of call for new immigrants entering Singapore, giving thanks to their deities for helping them make the trip safely. The main deity is Mazu, the Goddess of the Seas, but the temple also encompasses Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism and ancestral worship.

The Blair Plain conservation area is a compact cluster of two-and three- storey shophouses and terrace houses of various architectural styles.
