Boat Quay Shophouses
Boat Quay Shophouses
Boat Quay was earmarked for conservation by URA in 1986 and 108 shophouses were gazetted for conservation. Restuarants and shops started to boom here in 1994/1995. However business shifted more to Clark Quay, Robertson Quay & Mohammed Sultan areas in later years.
Today, towering buildings such as UOB Plaza, Chartered Bank Building, Bank of China Building and OCBC Centre, rather than warehouses, mark Boat Quay’s skyline. Bumboats and barges were banned since the Clean Rivers Campaign in 1984 except for those that served as river taxis for tourists.
